Wireless Sensors and Control Networks:
Enabling New Opportunities

This talk will provide an overview of the ZigBee Alliance and its mission. It
will address the basic functionality delivered by the standard, where it fits
in the wireless arena, plus next steps for the 230 member strong ecosystem of
companies creating applications for use in home, commercial and industrial markets.
He will discuss why ZigBee is uniquely positioned to enable Automatic Metering
Infrastructure and the Smart Grid offering energy utilities and their customers
unprecedented ability to control and manage their energy consumption for a greener
world. Dr. Heile will present insight on major corporations' plans to offer new
ZigBee products and services as well as information on how companies are implementing
ZigBee technology to save money, improve reliability, and offer new services.
Because ZigBee technology is expected to be embedded in a wide range of products
and applications around the world, Dr. Heile is uniquely positioned to offer observations
on the consequences OEMs and their customers could face by selecting the wrong
technology or by simply ignoring the need to plan for and adopt this next great
wave of innovation.

802.15ワーキンググループの代表も務めています。また、802.11無線LAN仕様に関する当初からの策定委員でもあります。ZigBee Allianceの指揮を任されるまで、ボブは世界的にも著名な数々の企業に対して、ワイヤレスコミュニケーションに関するコンサルティングを提供してきました。それ以前は、無線アドホックネットワーキングと無線PAN技術の商業化に道筋をつけるため、ワイヤレス利用ビジネス開発担当として、GTE/BBN
Technologiesで活躍しています。また、1990年には、共同設立者として、初期のWLAN開発に取り組んだWindata社を立ち上げたほか、1980年から1990年までは、Motorola
Codex社で、モデム関連ビジネスを統括する副社長兼上級マネジャーを務めました。ボブは、オバーリンカレッジで学士号を、ジョンズホプキンス大学で修士号および博士号を取得しています。 |

The ZigBee Technical Overview
ZigBee技術の概要 |
A technically focused overview is presented of the ZigBee protocol stack.The overview
includes a layer by layer feature description of the protocol stack with a discussion
on usage scenarios. The presentation will describe the network mesh routing solution
employed by ZigBee, the AES-128 based security solution and the application support
architecture. The presentation is intended for technical and business professionals
seeking to understand the architecture and technical features of the ZigBee protocol.
The presentation is presented by Don Sturek, Senior Member of the Technical Staff,
Texas Instruments. Don is also the ZigBee AllianceArchitecture Working Group chairman.

Don Sturek is a Senior Member of the Technical Staff for Texas Instruments Low
Power Wireless group. Mr. Sturek is also chair of the ZigBee Alliance Architecture
Working Group and technical editor for the Application Framework Working Group.
Mr. Sturek has been active in the ZigBee Alliance since 2002. Prior to his tenure
at Texas Instruments, Mr. Sturek worked as Vice-President of Engineering for WIDCOMM,
the leading supplier of Bluetooth protocol stacks prior to their purchase by Broadcom. |

The foundations of any ZigBee node are the security engine and the networking
layer. It is the Network layer that is responsible for delivering the data across
the mesh network to the target device. Whilst the Security suite provides the
necessary options to ensure that the network is sufficiently secure for the diverse
range of applications.

Ian is responsible for the 802.15.4 and ZigBee product families of Integration
Associates, a industry leading fabless semiconductor company. The companies ZigBee
solutions came about through a long term partnership with OKI Semiconductors,
where Integration designed and developed the ZigBee / 802.15.4 stack. This stack
continues to be one of the first to be certified as ZigBee compliant. Ian is also
heavily involved with the ZigBee Alliance itself through his role as Chairman
of the Network Layer Working Group. |

This presentation describes the ZigBee Alliance's certification program. It will
describe the benefits of ZigBee certification for product manufacturers and users
of those products. Two type of certification are described; platform compliance
and end product certification. Each of these are described in some detail, providing
guidance to both the developers of platforms including semiconductors and module-level
components, as well as OEM-developed products, including both those implementing
ZigBee Alliance interoperable application profiles, and closed private application
profiles.
Finally matters to do with the certification process and associated costs are
discussed.

Bill is CEO of Daintree Networks, the worldwide leader in advanced analysis tools
for standards-based wireless sensor networking. Daintree's products are in widespread
use by leading wireless sensor networking semiconductor, software and applications
companies across the globe. The company maintains sales and marketing headquarters
in San Jose, CA, and research and development facilities in Melbourne, Australia.
Prior to founding Daintree Networks, Bill served in many senior roles with Hewlett-Packard
and Agilent Technologies, both in Australia and overseas. Daintree Networks is
very active in the ZigBee Alliance, an association of companies working together
to enable reliable, cost-effective, low-power, wirelessly networked, monitoring
and control products based on an open global standard. Bill chairs the Qualification
Working Group of the Alliance, responsible for ensuring interoperability and certification
of ZigBee-based products, and is a member of the Technical Steering Committee
of the Alliance.
Wireless Development Manager, TUV Rheinland Group
John Lin 氏 |
Dr. John Lin is a graduate of Cornell University with BA in physics, University
of Texas at Austin with a MA in physics, and Osaka University with PhD in physics.
He has been employed with the TUV Rheinland Group since 1995. From 2001 to 2002,
he was responsible for the Bluetooth / BQTF in TUV Rheinland Japan, Ltd. From
2002-present, he has been with TUV Rheinland of North America Inc., involved in
various wireless technologies. He is primarily responsible for wireless business
development for the whole of TUV Rheinland Group, and is lead engineer in development,
implementation, and support of the ZigBee testing program for TUV Rheinland laboratories
worldwide.
He has been the chair of the Certification and Interoperability working group
of WiMedia Alliance in 2004; he works within the TUV Rheinland's WiFi Alliance
program to help implement test systems for TUV Rheinland WiFi Alliance Interoperability
laboratories. He is currently the Technical Editor of the ZigBee Qualification
working group, and works on test specifications for the ZigBee Alliance.

エネルギー効率を高めるZigBee |
This presentation will discuss how ZigBee is being used to connect consumer and
commercial devices to the Electric grid in support of Advanced Metering Infrastructure
and Energy Efficiency. ZigBee Home Area Networks [HANs] enable two-way communication
and control of ZigBee devices inside the home and serve as the key entry point
for smart energy grids. This communication and control is possible because ZigBee
is a global wireless language that connects dramatically different devices. ZigBee
links devices starting with the utility meter and reaches thermostats, household
appliances, HVAC, pool pumps, water heaters, lighting systems and other household
or building systems creating the HAN. For utility companies, ZigBee enables a
standards based approach to energy efficiency programs such as demand response,
time-of-use pricing programs, energy monitoring, pay-as-you-use and net metering
programs, enabling home owners use of distributed generation products like solar
panels. These new energy management programs directly impact consumers and businesses
as utilities grapple with meeting growing power demand while reducing the threat
of rolling blackouts during peak usage periods.
Global Energy Issues
o Increased energy efficiency is driven today by global macro trends like scarce
energy resources, increased competition for resources and global warming
o According to the International Energy Agency forecast, worldwide electricity
demand will rise to 30,116 billion kilowatt-hours in 2030, more than double the
2003 level
o In the next decade, the United States will need to build an additional 160 large
power plants to meet demand according to the North American Electric Reliability
Council
o Asian energy demand growth will be stronger than other regions at around 2.0
percent per year despite high energy prices through 2030
o Energy efficiency and demand response represents a 5th fuel -- an alternative
to coal, natural gas, hydropower and nuclear fuel -- and is the cheapest, fastest
and most effective way to secure the world's energy supply

Brent Hodges 氏 |
Brent is the Vice President of Marketing and Business Development for the ZigBee
Alliance. Brent is also a Vice President at Global Inventures, a firm which specializes
in the creation and management of organizations developing Information and Communications
Technology standards and which oversees the management of the ZigBee Alliance.
Brent started his work in wireless networking at a venture backed start-up in
Boston. Ember Corporation was an early pioneer in developing wireless mesh networking
technology for sensor networks. As the tenth employee, Brent was responsible for
Business Development and in leading the company to its first customer revenues.
He managed key customer relationships during the company's transition to a fabless
semiconductor supplier and promoter of the ZigBee Alliance. Brent also led the
development of the Ember Partner Program, which successfully established an ecosystem
of value added partners.
Brent's career began in manufacturing. He spent six years with a public $500M
specialty plastics company, where his responsibilities included operations management
and lean manufacturing initiatives. For three years, Brent was responsible for
production operations at the company's largest plant. This facility was a $65
million operation producing plastic hose and tubing for the beverage, heavy-duty
truck and general industrial markets - with customers such as Coca-Cola, Ford,
and GM.
Brent holds a BS in Industrial Engineering from Texas A&M University, an MS
in Industrial Engineering from Purdue University and an MBA from Harvard Business
School. |
